How to Sell on Vinted UK: First Listing to First Sale

Last checked: 1 September 2026

You can create a Vinted listing in a few minutes, but your first sale depends on the details buyers see: clear photographs, an honest condition, a searchable title, the correct parcel size and a sensible price. This guide takes a UK seller from an empty account to a completed order.

New to Vinted?

The current referral route can give you and Steven £5 after you list three items within seven days, then another £10 each after a qualifying sale within 30 days.

Referral disclosure: If you join through the Vinted link and meet the current conditions, you and Steven can receive Vinted shopping vouchers. The vouchers are not cash and Vinted can change the offer.

Before you list anything

  • Use the UK Vinted platform and complete the account setup.
  • Read Vinted's catalogue rules and confirm that each item is permitted.
  • Choose three items you own and can describe accurately.
  • Check your available drop-off points before enabling postage methods.
  • Keep packaging ready so a sale does not leave you rushing.

If you want the referral vouchers, create the account through the Vinted referral page first. The listing deadline starts at signup.

Step 1: choose the first three items

Start with items in good, saleable condition that you can post without awkward packaging. Recognisable brands, accurate sizes and seasonally useful clothing give a new account a better chance than damaged basics with high asking prices.

Inspect seams, cuffs, soles, zips, labels and fabric under good light. Set aside anything you cannot identify or anything prohibited by Vinted. A fault does not always make an item unsellable, but you need to show and describe it.

Step 2: take photographs buyers can trust

  1. Use daylight or a bright room with a plain background.
  2. Photograph the front, back, label and size.
  3. Add close-ups of fabric texture and useful details.
  4. Photograph every stain, mark, repair or sign of wear.
  5. Use your own images of the item you will send.

A buyer should understand the condition without asking for another photograph. Clear fault images also give you a record of what the listing disclosed.

Step 3: write the title and description

Put the brand, item type, size and a useful distinguishing feature in the title. For example: Women's Levi's 501 blue jeans, waist 30, straight leg. Avoid keyword lists that describe products you are not selling.

In the description, include the labelled size, how the fit compares with that label, material, measurements where useful, condition and faults. State whether the item comes from a smoke-free or pet-free home only when that statement is true.

Step 4: select the right condition

Match Vinted's condition field to the item in front of you. Do not use a stronger condition to make the listing look attractive. Buyers can report an item that differs significantly from its description, so an honest grade protects the sale as well as the buyer.

Step 5: set a price

Search Vinted for the same brand and item, then filter for similar condition and size. Active listings show competing asking prices, while your own minimum acceptable amount should account for offers. Private sellers keep the item price because Vinted currently charges zero standard selling fees, although optional promotion services cost extra.

A £10 asking price does not mean the buyer pays £10. Vinted adds shipping and Buyer Protection at checkout. The Vinted fees guide includes worked totals.

Step 6: choose parcel size and postage options

Pack the item loosely before choosing a parcel size so you can judge its dimensions and weight. An undersized selection can cause problems at the drop-off point or during delivery.

Vinted lets buyers choose from the shipping providers available at checkout. You control many of your seller options under Settings > Postage, although Vinted says some methods cannot be disabled and a disabled option can still appear when it is the only way to complete an order.

Step 7: publish and respond to buyers

Check the title, category, size, brand, condition, price and parcel size, then upload the listing. Reply to sensible questions using Vinted's messaging system. Buyers may send offers, and you can accept, decline or counter them.

Keep payments and postage inside Vinted. A real sale appears in the app with an order and shipping instructions. Do not enter card details through a link sent by another member, and do not move the payment conversation to email or text.

Step 8: recognise and send a genuine sale

  1. Open the sold order inside Vinted.
  2. Use the shipping provider and instructions chosen by the buyer.
  3. Download the prepaid label or digital code supplied for the order.
  4. Pack the exact item securely and keep any proof of condition.
  5. Send it from the correct drop-off point within the deadline.
  6. Keep the receipt until Vinted completes the transaction.

Vinted's UK shipping guide gives sellers five business days to send an order. If you need longer, you can ask the buyer to approve an extra three or five business days. Missing the deadline without an extension causes automatic cancellation.

Step 9: receive the money

Vinted holds the payment during the order. Its UK how-it-works page says the seller receives payment after the buyer confirms that everything is OK. Keep the transaction record and deal with any reported problem through Vinted.

Mistakes that delay a first sale

  • Dark or incomplete photographs.
  • A title that omits the brand, item or size.
  • Hiding wear that the buyer will see on arrival.
  • Pricing above similar listings without a reason.
  • Choosing a parcel size before checking the packed item.
  • Offering a postage method with no usable drop-off point nearby.
  • Following payment links sent in messages.
  • Waiting until the referral deadline to upload the third listing.
