Is Tessie App Safe? Everything UK Tesla Owners Should Know (2026)
Last updated: 1 November 2026
Tessie is a useful companion app, but connecting it means trusting another service with vehicle information and any controls you authorise. I would check the permissions before linking an account, then review them whenever I add an integration.
How does Tessie connect to Tesla?
Tessie describes an OAuth connection: you sign in with Tesla and authorise access. Tessie receives a token and says it does not store your Tesla password. Its security page explains the process.
Can Tessie control the car?
Vehicle controls depend on the access you authorise. Do not assume a fresh connection is read-only or that every integration has the same permissions. Read the consent screen and remove access you do not need.
What protection does Tessie describe?
Tessie lists TLS network encryption, AES-256 encryption at rest, device protections and biometric options. These are provider statements, not an independent security audit. Transport and storage encryption do not establish end-to-end encryption or mean that support staff can never access account information.
Enable Tesla multi-factor authentication and protect the devices you use. No connected service can promise zero risk.
What information does Tessie handle?
The privacy policy covers account and vehicle information, location, service providers and retention. It describes export/deletion controls and aggregated comparisons. Support may access relevant account information when helping you. Read those details rather than assuming Tessie collects only an email address or shares nothing under any circumstances.
What changes when you connect an AI assistant?
Tessie supports AI access through its MCP server. This can include vehicle commands, not just questions about battery level. Check which account and permissions you are connecting before asking an assistant to act.
Manage connected apps under Settings > Security. For a custom MCP connection, Tessie says to delete its developer token to revoke access. Treat a token like a credential: give it only to an app you trust. See the official MCP instructions and ChatGPT access guide.
How do I remove access?
Tessie’s security page explains unlinking the Tesla account and managing permissions through Tesla’s account dashboard. Review downstream integrations too; removing one assistant is different from removing Tessie’s Tesla connection.
Is Tessie safe for UK owners?
I would decide based on the permissions, the features you need and your comfort with another service processing vehicle data. Being in the UK is not a guarantee about security. Check compatibility and current privacy terms for your own setup.
My approach
I use Tessie with my Model 3 for battery and charging information. That experience helps me judge whether the app is useful; it does not prove that a service is incapable of a security problem. I would add access gradually and keep only the connections I use.
