Octopus Drive Pack: Too Good to Be True? Read This First!

Last Updated: July 1, 2026

In a rush?

Octopus Drive Pack is an optional add-on for Octopus Energy customers that bundles EV-specific perks including public charging discounts, tyre cover, and breakdown assistance. It is separate from Intelligent Octopus Go and costs extra on top of your energy tariff. For some EV owners the bundled cover justifies the cost. For others, getting the individual elements separately is cheaper.

Octopus Drive Pack is one of those products that sounds compelling in the marketing but needs a closer look at the numbers. It bundles several EV-related services into one monthly payment, and whether it is worth it depends entirely on whether you would buy those services separately anyway. This page breaks down what you get, what it costs, and how to decide.

Quick Verdict: Is Octopus Drive Pack Worth It?

Octopus Drive Pack is worth considering if you already use Octopus as your energy supplier, drive an electric car, and would pay separately for at least two of the bundled services. If you only want the public charging discount, Electroverse gives you 8% off for free without the Drive Pack subscription. If you already have breakdown cover through your car insurance or bank account, the RAC element is redundant.

The pack works best for EV owners who want the convenience of one monthly bill covering multiple services and who actually use all of them. For everyone else, picking the parts you need individually is usually cheaper.

What Octopus Drive Pack Includes

Octopus Drive Pack bundles several EV-related services:

  • Electroverse 8% charging discount at thousands of public chargers across the UK and Europe
  • RAC breakdown cover including roadside assistance, home start, and onward travel
  • Tyre cover for accidental damage and punctures
  • EV-specific support through Octopus customer service

The exact bundle composition and pricing can vary. Check the Octopus website for the current Drive Pack details before subscribing.

What It Costs

Octopus Drive Pack is a monthly subscription added to your Octopus energy bill. The pricing is separate from your energy tariff. You pay for the Drive Pack regardless of how much electricity you use.

The value equation comes down to whether the bundled services would cost more if bought separately. RAC breakdown cover alone typically costs £30 to £80 per year for basic cover. Tyre cover varies by provider. The Electroverse discount is free for any Octopus customer without the Drive Pack.

If you would pay for RAC cover and tyre insurance anyway, the Drive Pack may bundle them at a discount. If you only want the Electroverse discount, do not pay for the Drive Pack. The discount comes free with any Octopus account.

Common Questions

Is Octopus Drive Pack the same as Intelligent Octopus Go?

No. Intelligent Octopus Go is an energy tariff that gives you cheap overnight electricity for EV charging. Drive Pack is a separate add-on subscription that bundles EV services like breakdown cover and tyre insurance. You can have Intelligent Octopus Go without Drive Pack, and vice versa. They are different products billed separately.

Do I need Drive Pack to get the Electroverse discount?

No. The Electroverse 8% public charging discount is available to all Octopus Energy customers for free. You do not need Drive Pack to access it. Download the Electroverse app, link your Octopus account, and the discount applies automatically at participating chargers.

How does the Drive Pack tyre cover work?

Drive Pack typically includes cover for accidental tyre damage and punctures, with a claim limit per tyre and per year. The exact terms, excess, and claim limits vary. Check the Drive Pack policy wording before subscribing. If you have tyre cover through your car insurance or a separate policy, the Drive Pack cover may be redundant.

Is the RAC cover in Drive Pack full breakdown cover?

Drive Pack typically includes RAC roadside assistance, home start, and onward travel cover. The exact level of cover and any excess or call-out limits depend on the current Drive Pack terms. Compare the RAC cover included in Drive Pack against standalone RAC policies to check whether the bundle saves you money or gives you less cover than you would get buying directly.

Can I cancel Octopus Drive Pack at any time?

Yes. Drive Pack is a monthly subscription with no long-term contract. You can cancel through your Octopus account. There is no cancellation fee. The cover stops at the end of the billing period.

Who should get Octopus Drive Pack?

Drive Pack suits EV owners who already pay for breakdown cover and tyre insurance separately and want the convenience of a single monthly payment through their energy bill. It also suits owners who value the bundled customer support for EV-specific issues. It does not suit owners who only want the Electroverse discount or who already have breakdown cover through their car insurance, bank account, or a separate policy.

A note from Steven

I use Intelligent Octopus Go for home charging and the Electroverse app for public charging discounts, but I do not subscribe to Drive Pack. The breakdown cover on my car insurance already covers roadside assistance, and I have tyre cover through a separate policy. Adding Drive Pack would mean paying twice for cover I already have.

The Electroverse discount is the part of the Drive Pack bundle that people most often mistake for requiring the subscription. It does not. The 8% discount at public chargers comes free with any Octopus account. Do not pay for Drive Pack thinking you need it for cheaper public charging.

Check what cover you already have before adding Drive Pack. Breakdown cover through your bank account, car insurance, or a standalone RAC or AA policy means the Drive Pack's RAC element is wasted spend. The same applies to tyre cover. Only subscribe if you would buy those services separately and the Drive Pack price beats buying them individually.
