Octopus Home Mini Home Assistant Setup Guide 2026

You can bring Octopus Home Mini consumption data into Home Assistant through the community Octopus Energy integration. Install it with HACS, add your Octopus account, enable the Home Mini option, then select the accumulative consumption and cost entities in the Energy dashboard.
The Home Mini sends smart-meter data to Octopus over Wi-Fi. The Home Assistant integration used here retrieves that data from Octopus Energy’s servers. It is a community project, not an official Home Assistant core integration and not an Octopus-supported local API.

What you need before starting
- An Octopus Energy account and a working Home Mini.
- Live usage visible in the Octopus app or website.
- Home Assistant with HACS installed.
- Your Octopus account number and API key from your Octopus account dashboard.
- A recent backup of your Home Assistant configuration.
Step-by-step Home Mini Home Assistant setup
- Confirm the Mini works with Octopus. Check that today’s data appears in the Octopus app or online account. Fix this first if it does not.
- Install the community integration. In HACS, search for the Octopus Energy integration by BottlecapDave, add the repository and choose Download.
- Restart Home Assistant. The new integration will not appear until Home Assistant has restarted.
- Add Octopus Energy. Go to Settings, then Devices & services, choose Add Integration and search for Octopus Energy.
- Enter the account details. Supply the Octopus API key and account ID requested by the integration.
- Enable Home Mini. During account setup, or by editing the account later, tick I have a Home Mini. Keep the default refresh rates first. Octopus applies a shared limit of 100 API calls per hour.
- Check the entities. Open the Octopus Energy device. Some Home Mini entities are disabled by default, so enable the one you need if it is missing.
- Add electricity to the Energy dashboard. In Energy configuration, choose Add Consumption under Electricity grid. Select the entity ending
_current_accumulative_consumption, then choose the matching_current_accumulative_costentity for tracked costs. - Add gas if available. Choose Add Gas Source and use the gas entity ending
_current_accumulative_consumption_kwh, plus the matching accumulative cost entity. Gas may take a few days to appear in Octopus and then require an integration reload. - Check the result. Allow new data to arrive. The Energy dashboard starts recording from setup time and does not backfill Home Mini history.
A simple dashboard and automation test
Add the current electricity consumption entity to an Entities card so you can see whether it updates. For a safe first automation, trigger a phone notification when consumption rises above a threshold for several minutes. Choose a threshold above your normal background load and test it by switching on a known appliance. Avoid using an untested automation to control heating, charging or safety-critical equipment.
Troubleshooting
No Home Mini entities appear
Confirm live data reaches the Octopus app, edit the integration account and make sure I have a Home Mini is enabled. Reload the integration after gas first appears.
Updates are slow or fail
The integration reads from Octopus servers rather than polling the Mini locally. Increase the refresh interval if several apps or integrations share the account’s 100-calls-per-hour API limit.
The Energy dashboard is empty
Check that you selected an accumulative energy entity measured in kWh, not an instantaneous power value. New Energy dashboard data starts at the point of configuration.
Home Mini network setup
Octopus’s own setup requires the latest Octopus app, Bluetooth, and a phone connected to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Put the Mini close to the electricity meter and within reliable Wi-Fi range. Its light should progress from blue to green to white; initial live data may take 30 to 60 minutes.
